Hey friends!

Is it just me or are the days all blending together this week? It’s probably the fact that my schedule and my sleep have been a complete crap circus, so I’m only about 70% “there” mentally.

Anyway, I have some fun tools coming at ya in the next couple weeks, but for now, I figured we ought to catch up.  So grab your favorite iced coffee (no judgment if there’s Kahlua in there, too) and a snack, and let’s talk about some of life’s little highlights lately…and be sure to tell me what you’ve been eating/reading/listening to etc. lately!

Eating: Probiotics.  I’ve been working on supporting my gut health a bit extra lately, as I’ve had to take several courses of antibiotics in the last three months (thanks to a couple incidents involving poking my hand on a mysterious piece of rusty metal in the back of a U-Haul van and getting a skin infection from a hot tub that wasn’t cleaned properly).  Antibiotics are a wonderful invention and I’m so grateful to live in a time when they are available, but antibiotics don’t discriminate when they kill bacteria, so the good bacteria in your gut get carpet bombed when you take a course.  I take probiotic pills daily, but I’ve also been working to get more fermented foods in my diet (think kimchi, sauerkraut, all the pickled things, etc.), and I have noticed a definite difference in my gut feeling better over time!

Training: I’ve been trying to do core work more consistently this whole past month. It’s just good for you, yall. Not because it will give you a six pack (but we can talk about that another day!), but because a strong core benefits every other part of your body and your overall performance in the gym and in everyday activities.  Except I hate most core work, so that’s tricky.  I’ve been loving this 10 minute core workout, and doing it 2 or 3 times a week has been a really easy way for me to make sure that I’m working my core without having to actually think about what I’m doing.  The best part is the trainer, Jake DuPree – he is so sassy and I want to be best friends.

Reading: The Fellowship of the Ring.  Technically re-reading, but it’s been over a decade so it feels fresh.  I found this cool LOTR paperback set at a library book sale in Pasadena a few months ago, and if you know me, you know I can’t pass up a book sale.  It’s my financial Achilles heel.  Any other Tolkien fans out there?

Drinking: the Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout on nitro, which I got when I met one of my college girlfriends to catch up at a local pub house.  I’m not a big PB fan in general (I know what you’re thinking, and the answer is no, I don’t know what’s wrong with me, either), but this was amazing. The slight nuttiness was the perfect complement for the stout.  And it’s a good thing that beer was so damn good, too, because I’m not planning to drink for the month of August…but more on that later!

Watching: Queer Eye! It’s just such a fun show, and even better when my whole family gets together to watch.  I want to be best friends with Antoni and I want Jonathan to fix my crazy hair and I want Tan to help me dress better.  Obviously I’m also doing the French tuck on everything I wear (I actually explained the whole French tuck thing to a guy on a first date a couple weeks ago because – of course – I’d done a French tuck that night. What can I say? I tuck on the first date.)

Listening: Lately I am absolutely loving the Well Fed Women podcast with Noelle Tarr and Stefani Ruper.  These ladies know their stuff, and I really appreciate the balanced approach they take to health, where psychological health is considered with just as much importance as physical health. They cover so many different topics and answer a lot of great questions, and I’ve yet to listen to an episode where I didn’t learn something new and interesting.

Anticipating:  Sleep. So much sleep. I’m just excited to get my sleep back in order, because it’s been whack and my body can feel it!  Also, I’ve got a free birthday Starbucks drink to use this week, so that’s always exciting.  It’s the little things, yall.

I’d love to hear what you are enjoying this week, so leave me a comment here or find me on instagram and let me know!
